Clearstream and LCH SA collaborate on new post-trade connection

18.01.2021

As from today, all French and Belgian government debt securities cleared by LCH SA’s RepoClear service are available for settlement through Clearstream Banking AG.

The two new markets complement Clearstream Banking AG’s existing settlement proposition for German government debt, implemented in 2018. The extension allows RepoClear’s clearing members to benefit from Clearstream being a new settlement location for these two markets as well as investors to consolidate an even wider range of their European settlement activity in Clearstream Banking AG.

Today, international investors still face cumbersome processes for cross-border transactions, such as having to maintain accounts at different settlement or custody facilities that support the security in question. A single point of access for a wide variety of asset classes and jurisdictions helps minimise these hurdles, making global trading easier.

Corentine Poilvet-Clediere, Head of RepoClear and CaLM SA at LCH, said: “As an open-access clearinghouse, an important part of our role is to support our members’ settlement strategies whilst allowing them to benefit from RepoClear’s deep and diverse netting pool. We are delighted to continue to support our membership in expanding its choice in settlement venues via this extension with Clearstream.”

Thilo Derenbach, Head of European Custody Products at Clearstream, said: “French and Belgian government debt remain in continued high demand. We are excited that we can offer a broadened settlement proposition for these two new domestic markets. With this development, Clearstream’s and LCH’s clients can take advantage of the operational benefits of bundling their settlement flows with us.”
