Clearstream1 informs clients of an enhancement of the validation of U.S. CHIPS (Clearing House Interbank Payments System) and Fedwire cash instructions, effective

Monday, 16 March 2026.

This update ensures alignment with the Swift CBPR+ Standards and responds to direct client feedback.

Background

Clearstream will now accept U.S. CHIPS and Fedwire instructions containing a valid clearing code even when no BICFI (Business Identification Code for Financial Institutions) is provided.

Impact on clients

Payment Instructions will no longer be rejected due to missing BICFI when a valid clearing code is provided.

No changes are required from the client in message formats.
