Portugal: Suspension of physical representation at General Meetings

20.03.2020

Clearstream Banking1 informs customers that physical representation by BNP Paribas Securities Services at General Meetings has been suspended in Portugal until further notice.

BNP Paribas Securities Services will continue to assist customers in the preparation of the required documentation but will not represent customers physically at the meeting to vote on customers behalf.

The current number of General Meetings announced in the Portuguese Market is still residual, and with the publication of the Decree-Law no. 10-A/2020 of 13 March, that creates exceptional and temporary measures concerning the epidemiological situation, companies that need to organise General Meeting by legal imposition, can do so until the end of June.

If alternative solutions are proposed and officially confirmed by each issuing company such as:

  • the delegation of the vote to their Board of Directors;
  • the use of correspondence voting either via traditional mail or via electronic correspondence; or
  • remote access to the General Meeting,

we will immediately inform you.

We will closely monitor the situation and inform customers of any changes.
