Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap

20.08.2018

Clearstream Banking1 reminds customers to analyse the impact on their business of Oracle’s announcement of the end of public updates for Java 8 for commercial users on

January 2019

Detailed information

Java 8 is currently a required component in order to use the Clearstream Banking applications below:

  • CreationOnline;
  • Vestima (in conjunction with smartcards only);
  • Xact Web Portal (in conjunction with smartcards only)2;
  • VestimaPRIME.

Following Oracle’s Java Client Roadmap Update announcement:

  • Java 11, which is the next LTS (long time support version) after Java 8, no longer supports Applets or Web Start;
  • Applets will continue to be supported in Java SE 8 until at least March 2019, pending continued support by browser vendors, after which they may be removed at any time;
  • Oracle will extend support for Web Start in Java SE 8 until at least March 2025.

Following Oracle’s Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap announcement:

  • As of January 2019 Java 8 updates (for example, for bug fixes and security patches) will no longer be publicly available but require an Oracle Support contract.

This affects the users of the following Clearstream Banking applications:

CreationOnline

If you are still using the Applet to login please start using the Web Start option, offered on the start page: www.creationconnect.com

If you plan to install Java 8 updates after January 2019 (recommended) please obtain an Oracle support contract.

Vestima

The Applet used by smartcard users is planned to be replaced by a non-Java solution, no further action will be required.

Xact Web Portal

On 19 March 2018, the login procedure in Xact Web Portal changed in order not to rely on Java.

This was announced Announcement A18031, published 1 March 2018.

If you are still using the Applet login, please migrate to the WebCrypto login (non-Java), except for smartcard and VestimaPRIME users.

For smartcard users Clearstream Banking is planning to provide a non-Java solution in early 2019.

New users of Xact Web Portal without smartcard access are not affected by these changes as they use WebCrypto by default and do not require Java 8.

VestimaPRIME

Clearstream Banking is planning to provide a non-Java solution early 2019.

Important note

  • Clearstream Banking will not bear any responsibility related to breaches resulting from the use of unsupported versions of Java;
  • Customers without an Oracle support contract will not be able to install Java 8 security updates from Oracle.
