USA: Hurricane Sandy's impact on business activity

According to weather forecasts, Hurricane Sandy will affect the US north east shore areas (New Jersey, Long Island and New York) Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 October.

At this stage, the following impacts are anticipated on the operating processes of the US financial market and of Clearstream.

For securities trading:

  • The NYSE exchange will be officially closed on Monday, 29 October 2012 and trading will not be supported via the electronic NYSE Arca exchange.
  • Nasdaq and other Nasdaq-owned entities will also be closed on 29 October.
  • Both the NYSE and Nasdaq will provide further update on the trading status for 30 October.

For securities settlement:

  • DTCC and Fed will remain open for settlement.
  • However, all certificate-based services provided by DTCC – deposits , withdrawals, envelope and New York Window services – will be suspended beginning on Monday until further notice.

For cash:

  • Based on our current information, no impact on cash activities are expected.

Please note that, depending on the severity of the weather conditions, the lines of our New York Office might be re-routed to another Clearstream office.
