Additional significant digit in common codes

31.10.2013

Please be advised that the common code format will be adapted to include an additional significant digit as follows:

  • Current format: 9 digits, including a prefix set to zero that is usually ignored, for example 098153876
  • New format: 9 digits, all significant, for example 100002874

The new significant digit will be added as soon as the current common code format reaches the highest possible number. Following our assessment of the volume of securities accepted by both ICSDs, this is expected in late November 2013.

The new common code format will only apply to securities accepted after the change and will not impact existing common codes. The ISIN code structure as defined by the ISO 6166 standard as well as the check digit calculation method will remain unchanged.

Please ensure your systems can handle the new format before the effective date.
